Every dentist must guarantee to protect himself from hazardous substances and bacteria while treating a patient appropriately. This is mainly done using personal protection equipment.
Protection equipment comes in many forms, such as gloves, glasses, and disposable gowns. Moreover, wearing them is a standard prevention measure in most dental and medical practices, especially when surgery is involved.
A disposable gown is a special cloth that the dentist wears on top of the uniform. These gowns prevent liquids, body fluids, and bacteria from reaching the dentist's clothes and skin.
Disposable gowns are usually made of polypropylene or polyester. These materials are lightweight while acting as a barrier that repels fluids and tiny airborne particles.
These gowns come in different protection levels based on their design and what they are intended for.
Level 1 gowns are meant to be used in low-risk procedures and environments, such as during standard isolation and traditional care.
On the contrary, level 4 gowns are designed to be used in high-risk procedures. Especially where there is an elevated risk of infections and contamination, such as surgery. These gowns are sterile to reduce the odds of contamination.
There are different disposable gown models. Nonetheless, all of them cover the area around the neck, the arms entirely, and a portion of the legs. Furthermore, they possess a stretch fabric around the wrists that keeps the sleeves in place and helps the dentist or doctor place the gloves on top of them.
